Your Stay-Wet Palette will come with instructions, but to make it simple… soak one of the pieces of paper in water for about 30 minutes. (GREAT NEWS: They’re reusable!)
Wet the sponge sheet and wring most of the water out of it… Place it in the tray with the smooth side up. Place your soaked paper on top of the sponge. Take a paper towel and wipe away any excess water from the paper.
WARNING: You can always lift the paper and spray the sponge sheet with a little bit of water to keep it moist, but it you build your color strings on a sponge with too much water in it, the paint will absorb the water and your color strings will run together.
1.) Mix your paint from the color swatches you’ve chosen. (You can store any extra paint in a ziplock bag or small airtight plastic container.)
2.) Once you’re prepared your Stay-Wet Palette, start with a quarter sized dollop of paint. Using some white (and your grey scale value finder), create a color string with 5 or 6 different values each.
HINT: Take a picture with your phone and convert it to black & white to check your values.
3.) When you’re finished, make sure to secure the top of your Stay-Wet Palette tightly in place to preserve your paint. If you’ve got a good seal, your paint will remain wet for at least a month or two.
