4.2 - COLOR THEORY - part 2

WARM & COOL COLORS

Your color wheel will be a very handy reference in recognizing if a color is COOL or WARM.

If it’s cool, it will lean towards the blues and greens (Ex: Think or someone who is cold and their lips turn blue.)

And, if it’s WARM, it will lean towards red and orange (Ex: Think of someone who is hot and overheated…  Their face is flushed and their cheeks will be red.)

YOUR CHALLENGE (should you choose to accept it...)

1.) Using the two sets of primary colors, make your own color swatches using the following color combinations…

ORANGES

Warm Yellow (WY) + Warm Red (WR)
Warm Yellow (WY) + Cool Red (CR)
Cool Yellow (CY) + Cool Red (CR)
Cool Yellow (CY) + Warm Red (WR)

GREENS

Warm Yellow (WY) + Warm Blue (WB)
Warm Yellow (WY) + Cool Blue (CB)
Cool Yellow (CY) + Cool Blue (CB)
Cool Yellow (CY) + Warm Blue (WB)

PURPLES

Warm Red (WR) + Warm Blue (WB)
Warm Red (WR) + Cool Blue (CB)
Cool Red (CR) + Cool Blue (CB)
Cool Red (CR) + Warm Blue (WB)

2.) Make sure to label your swatches with the specific paint colors on the back.  That way if / when you need to recreate a certain color, you’ll have the formula.
