Module 4 | Video 1

4.1 - Part 1 - UNDERSTANDING VALUES

BTW – There’s nothing wrong with your computer.
The above video is INTENTIONALLY in BLACK and WHITE.

4.1 - Part 2 - Creating a Black and White Color String

IF THERE IS ONE VIDEO YOU WANT TO WATCH TWICE, THIS ONE IS IT !

Understanding VALUES is the key to any great painting, because color doesn’t matter…   Well it does, but when you can understand values in black and white, then color is easy.

YOUR CHALLENGE (should you choose to accept it...)

1.) Take the vineyard reference photo I have provided and convert it to black & white…  (Or use the B&W version I’ve already made for you.)

OR, if you’ve decided to paint something else, take your reference photo and convert it to black & white.

2.) Using your grey scale value finder, identify and label the value ranges in the photo.

3.) On a sheet of paper, practice creating a grey color string with at least 5 or 6 different values; from black to white…
